Lesson from Brooklyn. Pigs new album is coming out!!

My buddy Manak is putting out this album through his new label Solar Flare. This rules, Pigs is one of the most exciting band I got to see perform while in NY.

Unsane bassist Dave Curran started writing songs on guitar with drummer Jim Paradise (Player’s Club, Freshkills, Hellno) the name they tossed out for their fledgling project was simple: PIGS. “We figured it was short enough that press and promoters couldn’t fuck it up.” Producer Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Converge, Made Out of Babies, Unsane, Keelhaul) was invited to fill-in on bass for a couple of shows and, much to their delight, has refused to leave.

The sound ? PIGS sound like the last forty-five minutes of that interminable haul from Portland to San Francisco when both patience and air conditioning are long gone; like a petty, early-morning drunken argument in a gravel parking lot about the stupid, impossible math of how to divide forty-one dollars three ways; like when the left rear bearing on the van that’s been squealing and then grinding for days finally gets hot enough to weld itself into the axle and the ancient Detroit Deathtrap grates to a final, shuddering halt. Pigs sound like three guys who have played countless shows in many bands for a couple of decades in several dozen countries and still can’t leave it alone.

What’s up Rouen? Part 1: Prön Flavürdik

So, yeah. I used to live in Brooklyn, NY. 7 months. It took me a while before realizing I lived there. Oh man, I cherish those souvenirs.

NOW. I’m back in Rouen, France. Same old same old.

That’s the city you see at 5’07 below. Cute right?

Same old ? Not really. Some things are the same.

But some things have definitely changed, a new great venue opened a year ago, Le 106, where you get to see all the fancy touring bands.

There is also this smaller venue ran by a collective where you can find your underground fix. It’s called L’oreille qui traîne.

Some organizations also help those young bands to get a little more pro. And that feels good that those young bands are catching up.

Rouen is quite active, and since I’m back I can feel the novelty and frenziness. There is more opportunities for the young bands. The level of those artists improved.

Of course, it’s nothing to be compared to NY. But this city always got a few names out of its walls. Worldwide, or in the underground. And this tendency is going to increase within a span of 5 years I guess.

Since I got back three bands actually blew me away, like I’ve been blown away in the US by those bands I talked about in my previous posts.

Let’s start with Pron Flavurdik. Those guys exist since 2004 and played in various bands that definitely forged, inspired and put the local underground scene upfront.

This project is, let’s say, what furious hardcore kids in their mid 30’s do when they grow up. They either play rock, electro, or move on to more mysterious lands.

They always thought their music as a soundtrack. I’ve never been a huge fan to be honest at their beginnings. It was too blurry for me, to difficult to get in.

But goddam’it, their upcoming album “Legacy” is a stepping stone. This is the work piece you can only achieve after progressing, moving on, and learn to master your horizon.

With “Legacy”, the band has built up a 38 minutes song that develops, expands, evolves in blending different genres and subgenres of music. It’s organic, flawless and CATCHY.

It works on record (see the soundcloud link below) and live. It’s not another boring progressive band, it’s not another boring experimental band, it’s not another boring metal band.

Their set configuration is eye catching.

Their performance is wild and punk just like an hardcore punk show.

But there is this part of mystery that is to be explored.

I mean by that that Pron Flavurdik is not a band. They are an art assemble fusing artistic grace with punk ethos.

I am proud to be managing them now and hopefully go further up the road!

This below is the album preview of the band’s upcoming album “Legacy”.

Note that this is a rough premix, but it sounds goooooood!
